Hybrid Buses

Stewart & Stevenson designs and manufactures specialty diesel and diesel – electric hybrid powered vehicles. The division is ISO 9001:2000 certified, and includes a state of the art manufacturing facility, constructed in 1999, on 28 acres with 253,000 sq ft. of indoor manufacturing space. S&S has been an authorized Allison distributor since 1972. S&S personnel have been specifically educated in the theory, operation and installation of the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system. S&S has been the principal manufacturer supporting the conversion and integration of the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system into transit bus applications. The following installations, done by S&S, are in service now:

• Allison: S&S integrated the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system into one New Flyer 40 foot demonstration bus for Allison
• New Flyer: S&S completed the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system installation in one 60-foot artic for Altoona testing.
• SEPTA (Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority): S&S partnered with New Flyer Industries in the installation of the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system into two buses.
• Tri-Met (Portland, OR): S&S converted two Allison series hybrid system buses to the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system (parallel hybrid configuration).
• OCTA (Orange County Transportation Authority): S&S converted two Allison series hybrid system buses to the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system (parallel hybrid configuration).
• Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas: S&S converted four LNG powered New Flyer buses to the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system.

In addition to the above, S&S has over 15 years of experience in re-power for the bus and coach industry, and has worked in cooperation with the various manufacturers in development of improvements in powertrains for a variety of bus and coach products.

Hybrid Solutions integration process utilizes the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system.  One of the most important benefits from selecting the Allison technology is the Allison dealer network.  The entire Allison dealer network has been trained on all service aspects of the Allison Electric Drives EP hybrid propulsion system and is ready to support this product completely.
